UBC - Our next match was v. Bollstanäs SK, played on Friday 9th March. We had heard a lot of good things about Bollstanäs, the style that they play & the pressure that they put on other teams and that proved to be true. They started better than us and within 10 minutes had taken a 2-goal lead. As we know from before, being 0-2 behind isn't much fun and is yet another reminder to us of how important it is to get a good start. But, as in previous matches, the boys responded well and despite missing Fabbe & Marcus in midfield we gradually came back into the game and took it back to 2-2. Now we were the better team and were creating more attacking chances, although BSK scored another just before half-time due to our bad defending. 2-3 at the break. Our play in the second half was so much better, and our reward for "waking-up" was winning the second-half by 5 goals to zero, making the match result 7-3. Although they play very good football, BSK had only 3 or 4 attacks in the second-half and didn't look like scoring another, due to our improved defensive play and the fact that we moved the ball much quicker up the field. Henning scored 2 goals (making it 6 in 6 matches for him) and Manne scored 1, making it 3 goals in 5 matches for him. Afterwards we reminded the boys that the whole team has defensive responsibilities, not just those that play at the back, and the need to move the ball quickly up to the opponents penalty-area. Also that we must start matches strongly, rather than take 10 minutes to find our pace. We reminded the boys about the need to pay attention to marking our opponents and fighting to get the ball back when we lose it. /Mackan.

UBC - On the last Saturday of Sportlov, 3rd March, we travelled out to Bro for our fifth match in this competition. The match was v our old friends Boo, whom we have played several times indoors & outdoors. We have always had evenly matched teams and this was the way the game started. We took the lead after 5 minutes, a goal by Senay, and looked comfortable, despite the fact that we missed some regular players due to the holiday. But Boo were also missing players, so it was the same story for both teams. Boo gradually forced their way back into the game and scored 2 goals in the space of 5 minutes, which knocked us out of our stride. But our boys responded well and quick passing & movement got us back into the game and we looked more likely to score. But that is what let us down....we created so many chances but didn't score from any of them. This made our boys frustrated and errors started to creep back into our game. Boo scored 2 more goals near the end and it finished 1-4. But the scoreline didn't tell the story of the game, and Dennis, the Boo coach, acknowledged that his side had a quite fortunate win. A draw would certainly have been a fairer result. Afterwards, in the dressing room, our boys were quiet and felt that they had let themselves down. We spoke of the need to finish all the chances that we create through our good football and to stay on top once we have scored the first goal. We also spoke about defensive responsibilities when our attack breaks down. Everyone is looking forward to the return of our regular players and our next match, v Bollstanäs, on Friday 9th March. /Mackan.

UBC - On Tuesday 21st we played against Kungsängen IF. We thought this would be our toughest match so far, and so it turned out to be. There's no doubt that we played our best football so far in this Cup in the first half of this match. We contained KIF and gave them very few chances, and our passing-play created many chances for us. Manne opened the scoring with a cool shot into the corner of the net (his second goal in this Cup, from left-back!!) and Totti, rotating on top with Nico, worked hard and quickly added 2 more. 3-0 at half-time, and we started strongly in the 2nd half. But then, because everything was going our way, we got a little bit over-confident and started to miss passes and tackles, and our play got quite sloppy. This let KIF, who play good flowing football and have several tall boys in their team, back into the game and they pushed us further back into our half. A superb free-kick smashed in by Marcus made it 4-0 but KIF replied soon after to make it 4-1. This was a wake-up call for our boys and our play improved, but never reached the standard of the first half. It stayed 4-1 right until the last minute, when KIF were given a penalty, which we felt was very harsh on us. It was clearly a "ball-to-hand" rather than "hand-to-ball" incident, a hard-hit ball meant that it shot-up from our defender's foot and hit his wrist, but the referee (who did a great job) saw it differently and awarded the penalty. With 10 seconds left on the clock the penalty was missed, the shot going high over the bar. Final score 4-1, and we welcomed back our goalkeeper Ruben, who has now recovered from his broken arm. Afterwards there was only 1 subject on the agenda – we mustn’t get over-confident and let our concentration & focus drop. We were the better team, but small mistakes can have big consequences. /Mackan.

UBC - Next match was against the tournament organisers, Inter-Afro IK, and our passing play and good movement gave us a 6-0 win, with Nico (2), Henning & Waldo getting on the scoresheet. The simple story from this game is that we were much the better team and completely controlled the 40 minutes, but all credit to Inter-Afro for the part they played, they are a team which will quickly develop and grow, for sure. Afterwards we summed the match up by saying that we must now take a step up from this, as we work our way towards facing more difficult opposition. /Mackan.

UBC - Our second match v IFK Viksjö started badly when we gave away 2 simple goals, 1 because we failed to block the shot-taker and 1 due to a fast counter-attack by Viksjö which caught us with not enough players getting back to defend. But the boys responded well and by half-time we were the better team, although no goals were scored from the 6 or 7 good chances we created. So, 0-2 at half-time. In the second half we were a different team. Better passing-play, more blocking & tackling, and simple grit & determination meant that we could gradually take charge of the game and impose our style on Viksjö. More chances meant that Hugo & Oskar scored 2 good goals, and 4 minutes from the end Raul scored a superb winner. Viksjö are a determined & energetic team, they hit our bar with a good shot late in the game, but in the end we were too strong for them. Afterwards the feeling was that if the game had gone on longer, we would have scored more goals, but also that we need to improve our game in the final third of the pitch and convert all the chances we create into goals. The lesson learned from this match was that we must stick to our game plan, even when we are behind by 2 goals. /Mackan.

UBC - Our first match v. Håbo Röd was a 7-2 win. We set the pace of the game from the start and Håbo, who we beat 1-0 inomhus 5-manna in Kungsängen in December, found it difficult to deal with the speed at which we moved forward. Our passing & movement was good and there was an urgency to our play that gave us a big advantage. Håbo are a well-organised team but we controlled the game. We were disappointed to concede 2 goals, 1 due to bad defending and 1 from an unguarded free-kick. Henning scored 3 goals, and Fabbe, Nico & Manne scored 1 each. Afterwards we talked about using the space on the wings a lot more, to gain territory and put pressure on our opposition’s defence.
