We are a friendly, ambitious and relatively young, very lively and expanding Rugby club with 6 youth teams in the age grades from Under 7 through to Under-17. We also have an Under19 team for the first time next season. During 2011 we will field a senior 7-a-side team in the qualifications for the Swedish Championships, also a first for our club. Our Old Boys team is playing regularily, when the insurance policies, medication and wifes allow (not necessarily in that order!).
We are situated in Täby, approximately 20 km north of Stockhom. We have our home paddock, Täby Rugby Center, in central Täby with convinient communications. Our home paddock is equipped with all needed for serious rugby galore, including a scrum machine.
We were pruod hosts for the Spanish and Scottish teams during the Women's European Championships in 2009, when the teams trained at our facilities.
Since our humble beginnings, the first training session took place on the first of May, 2004, we have had a fantastic expansion over the last two years and now have
- Full squads in the grades Under7 - Under17
- We field teams in all grades in Mälardalsserien, the youth leagues run by the Stockholm Rugby Union
- More than 120 players in all. This number in growing every week!
- 15 coaches, 100% certified and trained according to IRBs Level 1.
- We frequently host training courses held by the Swedish Rugby Union
- Excellent support from the parents of our players! This is a vital part of expanding our club.
- More than 20 persons trained in Rugby refereeing, 5 trained and certified at IRBs ELRA level (which EKF hosted recently)
- An excellent Rugby paddock, Täby Rugby Center (at Ella Bollplan), complete with posts and scrum machine.
- Access to the EKF Club facilities and administration
- A very popular Rugby introduction program for schools in Täby, Danderyd, Sollentuna and Solna
- A strong presence of ex-pats and their kids in our squads
- A strong presence in the Rugby Academy program run by the Swedish Union and the Stockholm Rugby Development Officer
The first EKF player to represent Sweden at Under-18 grade is Sebastian Pihlainen, December 2009. We have since had more players getting to represent Sweden at this level.
We have an Old Boys side for social rugby and perhaps tours... We have played in the Stockholm International Tens tournament twice with great success.
We play some pretty good rugby, so come on down to watch our teams play.
From the season 2011, our oldest players form the 7-a-side squad. We are currently recruiting players born 1993 and 1992 to form the Under-19 squad for the next season 2011. We are also now welcoming senior players to join our club.
